Damian Dlugolecki Cello strings at Arc Verona

Damian Dlugolecki enjoys an international reputation as a designer and craftsman of the highest quality gut strings for renaissance, baroque, classical and modern performance. His innovative designs are based on historical practices and methods and are sought after by many prominent artists. The gut and varnished gut strings embody an advanced string design providing an optimal balance between quickness of response and overall strength. We refer to this at times as graduated twist or GT configuration. The roped gut strings are crafted by twisting multiple strands of gut in such a manner that neutral torsional balance is achieved. A supple and highly efficient string is the result. The demi filee or half-wound strings are made by spinning silver wire through the seams of a roped core. The result is an imaginative reconstruction of the demi filee string mentioned by Brossard (1712) and Forqueray (1767) but in no way is intended as an authentic representation. The silver/gut over spun strings differ from conventional covered strings in the sense that they are not self-damping so the sympathetic resonance of the strings is augmented rather than suppressed.
